Members must be active
In a housing cooperative, occupancy in the most generic sense, is not enough to sustain the needs of the business. Housing cooperatives by their nature and definition require more from the member/occupant than just the remission of the periodic housing charge. The member must be willing to participate on several levels and in a variety of activities to maintain the high value of the housing/services package.
A volunteer Board of Directors and supporting committees is a non-revenue solution to the expense of corporate administration. In exchange for the housing/services package, the member must provide both a financial and a social/personal contribution. The member must be the primary force in setting and enforcing the communities rules and regulations.
